A: Spammers will "mine" for e-mail addresses online. One method of doing so will be to search the internet for any strings with the @ and . symbols in them. Therefore if they see
address@domain.com listed on a website they will assume it's an e-mail address and add it to their spam database. By adding ACV_ at the beginning,
ACV_address@domain.com will added to their database and you will never receive any spam by listing on this site. ACV_ must be removed from the beginning of the address for the mail to reach its recipient
A: You are always free to make a monetary donation as a way to say thank you for the time and effort that are put into this site. The site always has been and always will remain free of charge, but donations are always appreciated as well as thank you notes!
You can also tell your friends about the site. If you're in e-mail contact with somebody from the area who's not in the directory, please let them know about the site and encourage them to add their information. The more listings that we have the more useful the site will become. It's a great way to get in touch with old friends or plan reunions.
I'm also very receptive to any idea that will make the site better.
Q: Why do you do this?
A: Growing up in the Allegheny-Clarion Valley, living in St. Petersburg, Foxburg, & Emlenton, I was always one to try to give back to the community. Since leaving it has been difficult to contribute locally the way that I would like, so this is my way of 'virtually' returning something to the place that I still call home.
Q: Are there plans to expand into any other areas?
A: I have been asked to design similar sites for the Clarion, Oil City, & Butler areas, but a lot of time and effort are expended on this site alone. While I have been flattered by the other inquiries, all entries are manually checked and entered into the site, so the time is just not there to expand the listings beyond the A-C Valley area or create additional sites.
Q: Am I going to receive a bunch of crap from you by signing up for this site?
A: Every few months I will send out a message to all people listed on the site to a) remind you that the site still exists and b) make sure the e-mail addresses are still active. If I receive a 'bounce-back' from an e-mail address I can remove the listing from the directory and therefore make sure that we're as current as possible.
